The death occurred peacefully at the Souris Hospital on Thursday, April 9th, of Gerda Brown in her 94th year. She was the last remaining family member of William B. and Elizabeth Currie of Woodvale, PEI.
Survived by her children, Brian (Rosemarie), Debbie (Charlie Murdock), Cathy (Art MacInnis), and Michelle (Paul Biso). Loving Nanny to Suzanne (Alexi Natale), Barry Brown (Yvonne Ng), Courtney (Steven McInnis), Vicki MacInnis, Mallory MacInnis, Danielle (Lucas Peters) and great Nanny to Gabe, Ashlyn, Brooklyn, Cohen, and Amelia. Predeceased by her siblings, Kenneth, Bruce, Erskine, George, Glen, Elizabeth, Hilda, and granddaughter Paula Brown.
Gerda was the “Matriarch” of Senior’s K Building (Bloomsbury St.) having lived there over 35 years, welcoming new tenants and making sure everything was in order. Her joys were watching the birds and animals from her window, knitting, reading, painting, baking, crossword puzzles, fishing and had recently bought a tablet to keep connected on Facebook. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be greatly missed. During these trying times, the family wish to thank Dr. Berrow, nurses, and staff of Souris Hospital for the exceptional care given to Gerda. Due to health restriction in place, there will be no public viewing. A private graveside service will take place at the Montrose United Church Cemetery at a future date. If so desired, donation in memory of Gerda can be made to the Souris Hospital or directly to the Montrose United Church Cemetery Fund.
“She never looked for praises, she was never one to boast, she just went on quietly working for the ones she loved the most. Her dreams were seldom spoken, she wanted very few and most of the times her worries went unspoken too. She was there… a firm foundation through all our storms of life, a sturdy hand to hold in times of stress and strife. A true friend we could turn to when times were good or bad, you really were our greatest hero.”
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Gerda Jean Brown March 8th 1927 April 9th 2020..
