Gerard Marion Coombs
September 13, 1954 – September 21, 2020
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, poppy, brother, uncle and friend, Gerard Coombs, at the age of 66.
Gerard will be sadly missed by his wife of 43 years, Tina (nee Making), son Calvin (Kelly), daughter Nicole Kenny (Andy) and son Shane. Five beautiful grandchildren who he adored, Madison (Jack), Cortney, Ashton, Owen and Milton and furry companion Sadie. Also left to mourn are his sisters Catherine (Richard), Agnes (Aiden), Gloria (Matt) and Barb; brothers Philip (June), Glen (Tina), Scott (Pauleen). Brothers in law Frank Making (Geri), Ed Making (Joan), Dick Making (Maureen), Don Making (Pauline), Derry Making (Linda) and Pat Making; sisters in law Ann Hayward (Des), Ellen Finlay (Roy), Cynthia Hicks (Dick) as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews and his uncle Fred Perry and only godchild, Wanda McCarthy.
Predeceased by his parents Adrian and Regina (nee Perry), brother Paul, brother in law Walter Osmond, parents in law John and Marion Making (nee Critch), and their children Bridie and John Jr. As well as his two nephews, Chris McCarthy and Billy Molloy and his faithful, four legged companion, Lexie.
Gerard spent his life surrounded by family and friends. He grew up in Portugal Cove South where he started his life in the fishery. Gerard thoroughly enjoyed spending time at his cabin and hanging out in his garage. He was an outdoor lover but often waited until the last day of the season to get his moose. He worked hard for his family and operated Second Cove Convenience, where he worked alongside his wife Tina and welcomed everyone with a smile. Gerard touched the hearts of many and left fond memories for anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Special thanks to his family and friends who helped Gerard and Tina over the past several months and the doctors and nurses of 4SB at the HSC during his final days.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Fahey’s Funeral Home in
Trepassey on September, 24th from 2:00 – 9:00pm. Funeral service will take place at
Holy Redeemer Parish Church, in Trepassey at 1:00pm on Friday, September 25th, 2020. Burial to follow at a later date.
