Gerald Sanford Bond 19282020

Gerald Sanford Bond
1928-2020
Bond, Gerald Sanford, age 92, of
Antigonish, formerly Queensport, Guysborough County, passed away on
September 8, 2020 in St Martha’s Regional Hospital,
Antigonish.
Born in Halfway Cove he was the
son of the late Clarence and Minnie (Delaney) Bond.
Gerald devoted his life to hard
work.
He began his working career in Annapolis Royal at a young
age, spent time at the Pictou shipyard, as well as trying his hand at
fishing.
In 1956 he settled down with the love of life Claire
(George) in Queensport and soon began a retail and wholesale meat
distribution business. In this capacity, Gerald met
lifelong customers and friends throughout Guysborough and Antigonish
Counties over his 39-year career.
After spending countless hours in
both the shop and on the road, Gerald and Claire finally retired in
1995 and moved to Antigonish. It was at this time he got to
enjoy some hobbies like gardening, fishing, carpentry, and many hours
spent at the mall chatting with buddies and old customers. Gerald
never missed a blade of grass in the yard or a Blue Jays game on the
television.
Thankfully he was able to enjoy a long
retirement.
Gerald is survived by his wife of
64 years, Claire; brothers, Percy (Joy), Mulgrave; Gordon (Myrtle),
Frankville; and Garfield and Lloyd, Halfway Cove; sisters, Verna
Ritcey, Eastern Passage; Rita Hansen, Dartmouth; Eileen (Pete)
Woolridge, Halifax; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his
brothers, Garland, Wesley, Aubrey, Donald, and John “Arnie”;
sisters, Helen, Marguerite, Marie, and
Bernice.
As per Gerald’s wishes,
cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Sunday
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College
Street, Antigonish. Social distancing protocols must be followed, and
masks are mandatory. A private, family funeral will
be held on Monday at 11:00am, and a livestream will be available on
the funeral home’s website.
Memorial donations may be made to
the Heart and Stroke Foundation or St Martha’s Regional Hospital
Foundation.
