It is with great sadness that the family of Gerald Arthur Kettner announce his passing on Monday, July 6, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society in Medicine Hat. Gerry was born on October 16, 1930, in Gull Lake, SK., and raised on the farm South of Gull Lake. He attended elementary school in String Butte and high school in Gull Lake. He married the love of his life and the mother of his children, Marian Doris Benjamin on August 25, 1951. Following their marriage, Gerry worked as a manager for Revelstoke Lumber until 1963, when he moved his family to the Benjamin farmstead North of Antelope, SK. There he ran the mixed farming operation as well as worked as an operator / forman for Mobil Oil. One of Gerry’s greatest achievements was assisting with the design and building of the Battrum Battery 21 Facility. Following his retirement in 1992, Gerry moved to Medicine Hat where he resided until his passing. He was a very hard working man, meticulous and organized throughout his life. In his younger years, Gerry participated in track and field, baseball, hockey and in his adult years curling. In his retirement years, he excelled at electronics and learned how to efficiently use a computer. Gerry’s memory will be forever treasured in the hearts of his special friend, June Thompson; children, Darryl (Joyce) Kettner, Kathi (Cam) Rutledge, Stephen (Kerry) Kettner, Kimberly (Troy) Todd; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his brothers, Leonard (Myrtle) Kettner and Darcy (Sandy) Kettner as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Marian in 1977; parents, Art and Dela Kettner; sister, Elaine Lowe and brothers, Glen and Don. A Celebration of Gerry’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Thursday, July 16, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating. Due to restrictions in place with regards to COVID – 19 from the Chief Medical Officer of Health – funeral services are now limited to no more than 100 attendees including family and funeral home staff. A private family reception will follow. Interment will take place at the Memory Gardens in Swift Current, SK. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Gerry’s name may be made directly to the Good Samaritans Society, 550 Spruce Way S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta T1B 4P1.
