Gérald Boucher
1932 ~ 2020
Aldouane, NB – Gérald Boucher, 88, passed away peacefully at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont
University Hospital Centre on Monday, May 18th, 2020.
Born in Richibouctou-Village, NB, he was the son of the late Livain and the late Edmée Boucher (born Allain).
Gérald is a 30-year veteran of the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, which provided great opportunities for his family. After his 1984 retirement from the military, he was employed for 10 years with the Commissionaires.
Family was his first and foremost passion. As we all know, his wife Ida was his soul mate for life. They had just celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary and not a day went by that he wasn’t at her side visiting La Villa Maria, unless his health prevented it. He was a self-taught carpenter/ handyman and his passion for gardening, wildlife and watching Judge Judy could not be surpassed.
He loved people. He was such a great listener and would always ask people about their lives and would listen intently on their every word, including his doctors and nurses during his last days. If ever a man was dignified it was Gérald. Humble, kind, generous to a fault, charismatic, caring, patient, selfless, great provider, strong, considerate, and funny with a dry sense of humour. Everyone who met him would agree that their lives were enriched because they knew him.
He will leave an impact on all those who knew him well. They’ll remember him with fondness and sadness that he has left our physical world. He was a great teacher and avid reader. His family is so blessed to have had this exceptional man and role model in their lives. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all. His favourite sayings were “What ya gonna do?”, “You just can’t buy common sense”, and “If you want the job done right – do it yourself” … a true perfectionist. A good-looking guy, he was always impeccably well dressed and poised. He will leave a void in the many lives he touched, but his presence will live on in our fondest memories. Gérald was the epitome of warm-heartedness. A life well lived.
Hope God is waiting for you in Heaven with your slippers, toothpicks and lots of potatoes.
Our Loss … Heaven’s Gain … Lucky Heaven.
Gérald will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Ida Boucher (born Martin) of Saint-Louis-de- Kent, NB; one son, Warrant Officer Jade Boucher (Laura) of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC; three daughters, Marcia Hawkins (James) of Greer, South Carolina USA, Tina Boucher (Jean Ravenda) of Gatineau, QC and Debra Slaunwhite (Don DeGrace) of Grimsby, ON; two sisters, Marie-Jeanne Caissie of Richibouctou-Village, NB and Rhéa LeBlanc (Alyre) of Downey, California USA; four grandchildren, Chad Slaunwhite (Cindy), Tania Ravenda, Gina Ravenda (Nick) and Sacha Ravenda (Carine); three great-grandchildren, Nathan and Nolan Slaunwhite and Camila Uribe, and also by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Vincent and Ernest Boucher and by three sisters, Lorette Collette, Germaine Richard and Martha Babineau.
