January 16, 1952 – April 12, 2020
The family of George Tate sadly announces his death on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020, occurring peacefully at the Leacock Care Centre in Orillia, Ontario, after a brave battle with cancer. George was the beloved husband of the late Kathy Tate for 41 years of marriage. He is predeceased by his parents, Fred and Myrtle Tate. Dearest brother to John (Bev), Penny (Steve) and Gerry, and dear brother-in-law to Murray (April), Janet (Guillaume) and Lori (Bert). Special uncle and great-uncle to many loved nieces and nephews. Wonderful friend to Allan and Colleen, and many others. George loved his many dogs, who provided endless love and companionship. Working at General Motors in Oshawa for 30 years, George was a proud member of the Unifor Local 222 union and retired in 2007. George had a passion for classic cars, and was an avid collector of cars from the 1960’s and 70’s, restoring them and showing them at local car shows. He loved fishing, hunting and snowmobiling. He and Kathy always vacationed in the Kawartha’s and were thrilled to move there from Oshawa, to enjoy their love of boating and nature. Special thanks to the many friends and neighbours who assisted Kathy and George with his care while he was still at home in Fenelon Falls. We would also like to thank the caregivers who showed George kindness while he was at the Ross Memorial Hospital, and especially the compassionate staff at the Leacock Care Centre who made George’s short stay there a peaceful one. If desired, memorial donations in George’s memory can be made to The Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes. Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of George Robert Tate Sunday April 12th 2020..
Death notice for the town of: Fenelon-Falls, Province: Ontario
Sending my sympathy to George’s family. While I only met George a couple of times (the last time at his and Kathy’s home just before Christmas 2019) I was a good friend of Kathy’s and she shared so many happy stories of her and George over the many years I knew Kathy. It was so obvious when listening to Kathy’s stories that she and George had a love for each other that many couples can only hope for. Their love and caring for each other will always be with me and remind what love is meant to be.
