With greatest respect, a private family time together will take place in George’s Honour
George was one of the prairie children – born September 29, 1922 in Battleford Saskatchewan. He was the second oldest of 8 children. George spent his younger years growing up in the Wilkie/Battleford area. He attended school until grade 8 as he was needed at home to help tend to the farming; his favourite saying “There is always work to be done”. George also spent much time living and working for Dave and Martha Irving, his second home.
George joined the army in 1942 and was deployed overseas for 4 ½ years during World War II in combat. He returned home from the war and married the love of his life, Mildred Widdifield, on Aug 9th, 1946. Together they moved to Enderby in 1958 where they raised 3 daughters and 1 son.
George had many jobs from farming, witching and digging water wells, running his own car wash and gravel trucks, operating heavy equipment for Riverside Forest Products, and was a rural mail carrier for Canada Post. Some of George’s hobbies included dancing, racing his chariot ponies, camping and fishing, and most of all the old time music! He had resided at the beautiful Parkview Place in Enderby for the past 9 ½ years where he struggled with many trial and errors.
It was always said that if you heard yodelling at Parkview you knew where George was and any time the family or staff hears the Red River Valley song they will think of George, he never quit singing it.
George was predeceased by his wife Mildred in 2010 after 64 years of marriage
