Death Notice
HILLS, George – Peacefully at University Hospital on his 90th birthday, George William Hills of London, Ontario. Born in Hamilton, Ontario on October 6, 1930. Predeceased by his parents, George and Alice Hills and younger brother William Hills. In June of 1952, George met the love of his life, Jacqueline (Jackie) Gibson, R.N. of Cobourg, Ontario (deceased 2000) at Burrelison’s Dance Hall. In June of 1954, Jackie and George were married at Cobourg, Ontario and were blessed with two special children; son, Marty (Leah) of Windsor and daughter, Heather (Al) Tayles of Coldwater. Proud grandfather to John (Joanna), Brandon, Brittney and great grandfather to Cole.
In 1946, George was hired by Otis Fenson in Hamilton, Ontario. He retired from Otis in 1996 after 50 years of service. His career at Otis took him from the branch office in Hamilton to Montreal, Toronto and Peterborough. He became the manager of the Windsor and later the London offices and concluded his career as senior account manager for new sales.
George was a member of the Corinthian Lodge A.F.& A.M. No. 101 G.R. C. Peterborough for more than 50 years. He was a life member of the Association of Kinsmen Clubs of Canada, Past President of the Kinsmen Club of Peterborough, Kinsmen of the Year and past District Coordinator. He was a former member of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army Windsor, former Director of the Rotary Club of Windsor 1918, former member of the Downtown London Rotary Club. George strived to give back to every community he lived in and generously supported many charities. George will be greatly missed by his special friend and dance partner, Joy Gerofsky.
Visitation on Friday, October 10 from 1-3 pm at Harris Funeral Home, London, preceding the funeral service which will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 3 pm. Attendance at visitation and service by appointment only: RSVP to Harris Funeral Home, 519-433-7253. Interment Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
