Gary Lieberman 2020

On November 19, 2020, Gary crossed the finish line in his courageous race against cancer surrounded by his loving family.
Caring and loving husband of 51 years of Lynda. Devoted father of Laura and husband John Murtagh of LaSalle and Mark of Vancouver. Kind grandpa to Elijah and Asher Murtagh. Fondly remembered by brother David and wife Anita, brother-in-law Bill, brother Irwin and wife Risa, and their extended families. Also remembered by the Sudds family, Carol and Perry Bonnett, Tom and Astrid Sudds, Wendy and Gary Busteed and their families. Predeceased by parents Ruth and Louis Lieberman, sister Frances Marwil, niece Jennifer Marwil and sister-in-law Margie Bleyer Lieberman.
Born July 27, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan, he lived there until proudly serving in the U.S. Army in Heidelberg, Germany from 1965 to 1968. Shortly after returning to the U.S., he met Lynda through a mutual friend while working as a computer systems analyst at the Penobscot building in downtown Detroit. Gary and Lynda married on October 18, 1969 and began a life together in Windsor. They had two children, Laura and Mark. Together they spent weekends visiting family in Michigan and Leamington. After retirement, Gary and Lynda enjoyed travelling to warmer climes, eating out and spoiling their grandsons. A true Detroiter, Gary loved cars, sports teams, Jewish delis and kosher hotdogs. Gary always had a sharp mind with a keen ability to calculate figures in his head. He loved a cold cola, a hot bowl of soup and salty snacks. He was an avid sports card collector. Gary enjoyed the comforts of home, baking cookies, watching the news and listening to sports radio.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Windsor Cancer Centre, especially Dr. Woldie, Dr. Gupta and Dr. Pan, for their excellent care. The family feels gratitude for the home care support he received. The family would also like to thank the doctors, staff and volunteers at Hospice of Windsor for their compassionate care.
Thank you to the wonderful neighbours and friends who have always been there to help.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date when family and friends may gather safely. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Hospice of Windsor or the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre Foundation.
