Obituary of Frederick Rose
It is with deep sadness and profound love that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Fred Rose of Bishop’s Falls.
Fred was the last remaining child of Fred and Leah Rose of Brigus Junction having been pre-deceased by his brothers Reginald, Harvey, Frank, and Tim.
Left with a lifetime of cherished memories are his devoted wife of 59 years, Shirley, sons Jerry (Jackie), Brian (Carol), daughter Sherry (Ed) Christopher, grandson Jeffrey (Rebecca) Rose, and step-grandchildren Cory and Abigayle Wiseman, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends who all loved him dearly.
Fred was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who devoted his entire life to his family – whether it was suiting Jeffrey up for minor hockey in earlier years or handyman projects with the boys, to later years of enjoying family barbeques, hosting cooked Sunday dinners or just relaxing on Sherry’s deck with “his” much loved dogs.
Fred was a quiet, unassuming man whose mild and gentle manner immediately drew others to him. His quick wit and keen sense of humour made him a complete joy to be around at all times.
He had an impeccable work ethic having worked with the Canadian National Railway for 38 years at the time of his retirement in 1988. Despite weekly commutes on the CN bus from Bishop’s Falls to Port aux Basques, followed by double shifts, he never once complained about the work that he enjoyed so much as he loved to provide for his family. He remained a railroader at heart for the rest of his days and kept in touch with one of his few remaining fellow railroaders, Mr. Frank Yetman, up to the time of his passing. He thoroughly loved reminiscing with him each and every week.
Despite his health challenges these past few years, he never once complained, but always greeted you with that welcoming smile. He so appreciated the love and care that his devoted wife selflessly provided each and every day.
Fred’s passing will leave a gaping void in the hearts of those who loved him, but we take comfort in knowing that he is safe in the arms of God.
The family would like to acknowledge the countless expressions of love and kindness shown during this difficult time.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family visitation and burial will take place.
“Go rest high on that mountain. Son, your work on earth is done.”
