Frederick Ira Colwell
June 27, 1945-December 14, 2020
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Frederick Ira Colwell on December 14, 2020. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Carmen (Chisholm) and Ira Colwell, predeceased by his wife of 51 years Carol. He leaves behind his daughter Angela Sheaves (Greg) and son Gary Colwell (Amanda); grandchildren Stephanie Redden (Matt), Kate Craft (RJ), Nicole Colwell (Drew); great grandchildren Khloe, Violet and Poppy; brother Jimmy and sister Madelyn. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends. Fred worked for The Canadian Coast Guard in his younger years, followed by transport and supply at CFB Shearwater until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and travelling to Cuba, which him and Carol frequented over the years. His family would like to thank all of the wonderful staff at Northwood Halifax, especially the staff on 11 Manor for all of the love and care they provided to Fred while he lived there. Due to public gathering restrictions, there will be a private family service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lower Sackville, NS. Online condolences may be made at www.dartmouthfuneralhome.ca. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Northwood Halifax.
