La célébration de
Freda Hamilton
5 mai 1936 –
28 avril 2020
With great sadness we announce the passing of Freda Hamilton. Loving wife to John married 62 years, their sons Kevin, Larry & Sean. Daughters in laws Leslie, Janet & Sandra. Grandsons Brendan, Lukas, Tyler & Dylan.
Born in Montreal, Quebec to James & Betty Dunlop, Freda worked for the CNR as a young adult with family and friends who she loyally stayed in touch with throughout her life. She & John purchased their first home in Ottawa, Ontario where they began raising their 3 young boys until the early 1970’s when they permanently moved their family to Etobicoke, Ontario. Their home at 4 Ulverston Drive, which they proudly occupied for 40 years, would become famed and appreciated by many for their gatherings & BBQ’s. Freda & John loved to entertain guests from around the world who enjoyed wonderful home cooked meals, Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies, and spending afternoons in their backyard pool garden oasis. She put many miles on her vehicle driving back and forth from Peruginas Italian Bakery spoiling her family and many guests, always providing fresh rolls for her endless offering of lunchtime sandwiches, custom made on the spot and loved by all.
While her boys were in school, she worked for Fuller Brush Company selling door-to-door, and then moving on to work full time at Wilson’s Truck Lines on the West Mall. Freda would later establish a route as a successful & friendly merchandiser for Mennen, putting many more miles on her vehicles driving around the Greater Toronto Area. During this time, all of the visitors to 4 Ulverston were never disappointed to leave with an array of Mars Candy Products, Deodorant, Toothpaste, and Toothbrushes; presumably to avoid cavities from all the candy and delicious desserts that she served.
Freda loved to sing & dance, enjoyed cruises & traveling, and was an avid reader. She and John had a ritual of having candle lite dinners in their dining room with the green curtains. In her later years, you could often find her on her front Gallery during the good weather talking with neighbors and feeding the squirrels, many of whom were known as “Charlie”. She never lost her witty sense of humor.
We would like to thank her caregivers at Milton District Hospital Extended Care & Extendicare Mississauga from the Fall of 2019 through the Spring of 2020. While we are unable to commemorate Freda’s life due to recent events impacting many around the world, we will be scheduling an event to do so in the summer of 2020.
