Franklin Nelson Haley
1943-2020
Nelson Haley passed away suddenly on January 30, 2020 at
Charlotte County Hospital. Born in St. Stephen, NB he is the
son of the late Philip and Eleanor (Cook) Haley.
Nelson grew up in Oak Hill, NB and received his
bachelor’s degree in Business and Finance from Husson
College in Bangor, ME. He travelled extensively in Canada
and the United States living in Calgary, Vancouver and Edmonton,
before returning home to St. Stephen.
Nelson’s love and devotion to his parents was
exemplary. In the years his mother was a resident at
Lincourt Manor, Nelson visited each day missing only one or two days a
year.
Nelson was diagnosed with diabetes in his early
teens. Through strict diet and with a good understanding of
his condition he was able to live independently until the time of his
passing. His positive outlook, optimism and never
complaining was a part of who he was. Nelson never judged or
criticized anyone. He had a great sense of humor, a
remarkable memory and had a lifelong passion for reading and the study
of history and politics.
Nelson leaves to mourn his nephew Tim (Natalie) Hovey; great
nephew and niece Jack and Kate Hovey; aunts Marjorie Linton, Alba
Haley and Kay MacKnight, and numerous cousins. David and
Darlene Leavitt were like family to Nelson, lending a helping hand
whenever required. David was his best friend and
he relied heavily on him. The family is deeply grateful for
their friendship, kindness and countless hours of assistance. Also
Nelson’s other neighbors who’s exceptional
kindness and attention allowed Nelson to live independently in his
community. Nelson’s cousin, Ann Haley, was a very
special cousin and friend. Nelson talked with Ann at minimum
weekly, and their talks were a source of great enjoyment for
Nelson.
There will be no funeral or visitation. Interment
of ashes will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery at a later
date. For those who wish donations may be made to Charlotte
County Hospital Foundation in Nelson’s memory.
