Obituary of Frank Chesley Etsell
Passed peacefully away on April 6, 2020 at the Central NL Regional Health Centre at the age of 82 years. Frank was born in Port de Grave in 1937. He was the second child of Pastor and Mrs. Wilson Etsell.
After completing high school, Frank attended Memorial University and spent seven years teaching high school.
Frank and his family relocated to Labrador City in 1965 where he worked with the Iron Ore Company of Canada for the next 32 years. Frank was involved in community work for many years. He was a school board member for fifteen years; chairman of the local chapter of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineers; member of the Provincial Safety Council; and involved with the Canadian Red Cross. Frank was quite involved with his local church and served as secretary of the Board of Deacons for over thirty years, both in Labrador City and Springdale, Newfoundland. Frank was also involved in other areas of his church such as: Crusaders, CA’s, Sunday School and Men’s Fellowship. When he retired in 1997 he and his wife, Vivian moved to Springdale where they resided for the next 15 years. They moved to Grand Falls-Windsor in 2012 where they lived until Frank’s death.
Frank was predeceased by his first wife, Judy, who passed away in 1995. Also predeceased by his parents: Pastors Wilson and Bessie Etsell; sister, Vera and daughter-in-law, Kelly.
He leaves to mourn with loving memories: wife, Vivian; children: Keith (Allison), Paul (Geraldine), Cathy, and Christopher. Also his step-children: Donna (Tom), Todd (Marilyn), Dana (Barry); brothers: Edward (Elizabeth), David (Starlene); sisters: Betty (Earl), Bernice, Evelyn (Lew), Eileen (Doug), Marilyn, Marie (Gordon), Marina and brother-in-law, Bill Snow; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as a large number of other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Due to the Covid-19 there will not be any visitation or funeral service at this time. Burial will be at the Interfaith Cemetery, Union Street, Grand Falls-Windsor.
