Frances G. “Fran” Beazley
1924-2020
Peacefully at Whisperwood Villa on Sunday, March 29th, 2020
of Frances “Fran” G Beazley (nee Wilson) of Charlottetown,
in her 96th year. Dear Mother of Roch (Betty Anne Morrison), Edward
(Heather Stewart), John (Katherine-deceased (nee Jonak) and Roger.
Loving Grandmother to Nicholas, Emma, Jenna and Aiden. Sister-in-law
to Helen Wilson. Special Aunt to nieces and nephews Robert, Mary,
Paula, Albert, Scott, Suzanne, Jeannine, Jane, Mark Wilson and
Adrianne Good. Special mention to niece Jane Wilson, with whom she
shared a special bond over the years.
Predeceased by her parents Albert and Jennie (nee Lonergan),
husband Charles “Bud” Beazley, and by siblings Albert,
Eileen “Disa”, Edward “Ted” and Noel Wilson.
Fran grew up on King Street in Charlottetown with her brothers
and sister. She later attended Prince of Wales College, and then left
the Island to graduate at St. Martha’s School of Nursing in
Antigonish, Nova Scotia in 1948. Following graduation, Fran joined the
Royal Canadian Air Force as a Nursing Sister and was stationed at
several Canadian bases in her 10-year career, including Welland,
Ontario; St. Hubert, Quebec; and Beaverbank, Nova Scotia; where she
met her husband to be Charles Beazley.
After Bud and Fran
married in 1958, Fran left her nursing career to start a business with
her husband. She had a successful career running the Flower Cart in
Charlottetown for over 40 years. Her husband Bud passed away in 1977
and she continued to raise 4 boys as a single parent, while running a
business as the sole proprietor. Her sons credit her success to her
incredibly strong work ethic.
Fran was a lovely, gregarious
woman with a smile that would light up a room and an infectious laugh.
She loved her 4 boys, grandchildren, siblings and friends. Fran loved
to prepare and host large Sunday and holiday dinners for family and
friends…her favorite and specialty was turkey dinners with
all the fixings. She loved all Sports – both as a
participant, and as a fan. Her favorite sports growing up were
basketball and tennis…in her day she was Captain of the
Prince of Wales Women’s Basketball Team. Her favorite hockey
team was the Montreal Canadians and she enjoyed many a Saturday night
together with her sons watching her Habs, while they listened to her
screeching and shouting (depending of course how the Habs were doing
that night). Her sons remember a Mom who had a competitive
spirit…who hated to lose, and of course, loved to win! This
spirit was most evident in the table tennis matches she would have in
the basement after dinner …she loved playing with her boys
at ping pong and loved it even more when she would win. She immensely
enjoyed her cottage life at Rocky Point, and she continued to play
bridge well into her 80’s.
Fran was a devoted
member of the Catholic faith and was a member of the Holy Redeemer
Parish for many years and a member of the Choir. She was also involved
throughout the years with CWL and various other local charities.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff in
Remembrance Hall at Whisperwood Villa for the excellent care and
comfort given to our mother.
