Obituary of Florence Phoebe Walsh
Florence Phoebe Walsh passed away peacefully in the Central NL Regional Hospital in Grand Falls-Windsor on September 30, 2020 after a lengthy illness. While her illness may have slowed her down, her love for her family and spiritual beliefs never waivered. She was 74 years of age.
Florence, fondly remembered by her friends as Flo and her family as Nay, was born January 27, 1946 in Peterview, NL to the late Douglas and Gertrude Tarrant. She lived there until the age of nineteen, then moved to Gander, NL in which she spent time caring for a couple of kids whom she dearly loved and from there went to work in the old terminal as a waitress. It was there she met and eventually married the love of her life Vincent Walsh on December 5th, 1964. Together they had three sons. During their marriage they lived in Newfoundland, Ontario, Alberta and retired back home in Newfoundland in 2009.
Florence’s first love was her family and she looked forward to every visit. As they lived so far away, she cherished every moment she had with them. Florence had a passion for baking, cooking and canning. Vince and the boys never went hungry and neither did the community as she spent many hours baking and selling her wonderful treats at Christmas. She loved Christmas and all that came with it, decorating her house, the garden, baking and shopping for all of her loved ones. Another one of Flo’s favourite pass times was planting flowers in her garden in the spring. She loved colourful flowers but her favourite were pansies. While on earth her planting days may have come to an end, she is gone to a place where the pansies will always grow.
She was predeceased by her parents Douglas and Gertrude Tarrant; Mother and Father in-law Stephen and Annie Walsh; brothers Peter Reid, Freeman Tarrant, Randy Tarrant; sisters Mildred Hancock, Goldie Barnes, Jessie Gibson, Peggy Tarrant; Brother and sister in-laws; David Blake, Joseph Hancock, Randell Barnes, Harvey Stuckless, Winston Stuckless, Herman Budgell, Steve (Elizabeth) Walsh, Kathleen (Bernard) Peddle, Roy Walsh, Jack Walsh, Elizabeth (Ron) Whalen, Bill (Lillian) Walsh, Tom Pritchard and her great grandson Blueberry Springer.
She leaves behind to mourn in her passing her loving husband of 56 years, Vincent Walsh. Her children Craig (Elaine Thiels) Walsh, Deon (Valerie) Walsh, Chad Walsh. Her grandchildren Jessica Maxwell (Larry Buchanan), Matthew Walsh, Taylor and Brody Walsh, Tanya (Steve) Craig, Amanda Clift, great grandchildren Marley and Emery Craig and Arianna Maxwell, Sisters and brothers, Eileen (Don) Stuckless, Clayton (Wanita) Tarrant, Maxine Stride (Derek Luff), Ina Blake, Sister in-laws; Judy Young, Marie Pritchard, Carol Walsh, Stella Reid and numerous nieces and nephews.
Following Covid-19 restrictions a private family visitation will be held at Hoskins Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor. Captains Ray and Denise Saunders will conduct a private family graveside service on Monday at the Peterview Salvation Army Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Baxter Blake, Hayward Blake, Woodroow Hibbs, Willis Blake, Morgan Burt and Hedley Sheppard.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Florence’s memory to the Dialysis Unit at the Central NL Regional Health Care Center, Grand Falls-Windsor.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Florence
