Florence Marion Oldershaw Monday January 13th 2020

Florence “Marion” Donkin Oldershaw passed away peacefully in Halifax, NS on Tuesday, January 14, 2020. Born in Bridgewater, NS, she was the daughter of Dr. Charles Alpin and Florence (Barteaux) Donkin. She married Peter Oldershaw on June 10, 1950, and they emigrated to Boston a year later. Marion and Pete raised two daughters in Massachusetts and New York before retiring “home” to Seabright. While living in Avon, NY, Marion was a popular Girl Scout leader and environmental activist. She was particularly proud to earn her Bachelor of Science degree from Rochester Institute of Technology at the age of 50! In retirement, she became a Certified Genealogist and she and Pete explored the Maritimes while she documented her roots. Marion was predeceased by her daughter, Annie in 2010, and her husband, Peter in 2012. She is survived by her daughter, Eileen (John) McKelvey; granddaughter, Laura (Jeff) Catalano; great-grandchildren, Robbie, Charlie, and Ellie. The family is especially grateful to special friends Heather and Paul, and Brenda and John, as well to extraordinary caregiver Joan, who enabled Marion to live at home. There will be no service. In memory of Marion, donations to your local library would be appreciated.
