Florence’s Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Florence Marie Hollis, 84, at home in Lower Sackville, formerly of Upper North River, NS. Florence was born in Folly Mountain, NS on 1 November, 1935 to her parents Annie M. (Lynds) and Ralph A. Gordon. Early in life, Florence moved to the Toronto, ON area, followed by a move to Belleville, ON until her return to her Nova Scotia roots and marriage to her now deceased husband Deane Hollis. Deane and Florence enjoyed many years together at their home in Upper North River, their cottage in Sutherland’s Lake, Cumberland Co., and their winter home in Zephyrhills, Fl Besides her husband & parents, Florence was predeceased by brothers Earle, Gerald, Murray, Vernon, Elmer, Harold, all in BC. She is survived by her sister Thelma Redmond, Richmond, NS and brother Aubrey Gordon, Truro, NS, as well as five stepdaughters being Wendy Wells, Gwen Williams, Linda Fromm, Deana O’Hanley, Patti MacDonald and nieces & nephews Caroline (Redmond) Smith (with whom she lived in Lower Sackville, after Deane’s passing), Sharon (Redmond) Fownes, Reginald Redmond, Geoffrey Redmond, Wayne Redmond (all in NS), Gerald Redmond, ON, George Redmond Jr., BC, as well as Wilma (Gordon) Jordan, Shirley (Gordon) Hudson, Verna (Gordon) Boutilier, Gail (Gordon) Waldhuber Floyd Gordon, Barbara Gordon, Keith Gordon, Brenda (Gordon) McKim & Sherry (Gordon) Halliwell all of BC. All those who knew Florence well, will sorely miss her quiet humour and very pleasant demeanour. Rarely do we meet in life, somebody so constant and upbeat; a credit to the way she lived her life. There will be no funeral service, at Florence’s request, but a small graveside observance at a date to be announced. Anyone wishing to acknowledge Florence’s life can do so by donating to a charity of their own choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mundle’s Funeral Home, 204 Water St., Pugwash.
