Obituary of Filiberto S. “Berto” Alessio
ALESSIO, Filiberto S. “Berto”- Of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, in his 96th year. Beloved husband of the late Bruna (née Tortolo) Alessio (1986). Dearly loved father of Gianna Filipovic (Josip), Marisa Pepe (Salvatore), and Flavio Alessio. Cherished Nonno of Marlina (Tyler), Giulia (Rob), Cristina, Daniel (Sarah), Nicholas, Michael (Marcie), Matteo, and Jessica (Ian). He was proud of his great grandchildren, Luca and Leo. Also fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and their families, all in Italy. The last of his siblings, Berto was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters. Born in Italy, October 22, 1924, he was the son of the late Angelo and Maria (née Marin) Alessio. Berto was a retired employee of Clark Equipment, St. Thomas. He was a member of St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church. Berto was passionate about gardening, making tomato sauce, and manufacturing and repairing items for friends and family. By invitation only, a visitation will be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160). The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Church by invitation only as well. Interment in Holy Angels’ Cemetery. Flowers respectfully declined. Memorial donations to Diabetes Canada will be gratefully acknowledged. A mask or face covering is required at the visitation and mass.
