Obituary of Father Joseph Antoine LeBlanc
The death of Rev. Joseph Antoine LeBlanc occurred at his residence, Thomas Hall, Fredericton, NB on December 26, 2020. Joseph was born in Minto, NB, on September 22, 1928, one of sixteen children born to Pierre and Nazarine (Bourque) LeBlanc. After studies in local schools, he completed high school and university studies at the University of St. Joseph’s College, Memramcook. He undertook theological studies at Holy Heart Seminary, in Halifax, NS, after which he was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Saint John in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on May 30, 1953, by the Most Reverend Alfred B. Leverman. He served as a curate in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Saint John; St. John the Evangelist Parish, Johnville; St. Joseph’s Parish, Bath; Holy Trinity Parish, Saint John; St. Mary’s Parish, Newcastle; St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Campbellton; and as a pastor in Sts. Simon and Jude Parish, Nackawic; Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Fredericton; St. Theresa’s Parish, Fredericton; St. Pius X Parish, Saint John; Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Rothesay; and St. Andrew’s Parish, St Andrews, from where he retired in 1996. He was very active athletically in his youth and in later years, with a special interest in hockey, tennis, golf, and skiing. He also enjoyed travel to Europe, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.
He is survived by brothers and sisters Leo (Lorette) of Coquitlam, BC; Edward (the late Janet), of Bracebridge, ON; Irene Roy (the late John), of Grand Falls, NB; Anita White (Gerry), of Fredericton, NB; Dorine Colton (Brendan), of Bathurst, NB; and Bertha O’Leary (Larry), of Fredericton, NB, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers and sisters Mary, Mary Ann, and Emile (all in infancy), Yvonne Langin (the late William), Emma Caissie, Lena Caissie (the late Eddy), Julie Toner (Wilfred), Florence Spears (Robert), and Sister Doris, NDSC.
The family would like to thank the caregivers & nurses at Thomas Hall for the great care given to Father Joe during his stay there.
Visitation for family and close friends will be held at Hogg Funeral and Cremation Services, Minto, NB, on Tuesday, December 29, from 2 pm to 4 pm. A private Funeral Mass for family and close friends will be celebrated in Holy Rosary Church, Minto, on Wednesday, December 30, at 12 noon, followed by interment in St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Hardwood Ridge. Strict COVID-19 protocols will be in place for the visitation, Funeral Mass, and interment.
