Evelyn McCoy October 6 2020

Obituary
McCOY, EVELYN
March 15, 1926 – October 6, 2020
Evelyn Christina McCoy (nee Andres) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at Saskatoon’s Royal University Hospital, holding the hands of her two youngest daughters with the love of her entire large family in her heart. Evelyn was born on March 15, 1926, in Melville, SK, the youngest child of Mary and Phillip Andres. She was raised alongside her brother, Arnold, who died in battle during World War II, and her late sister, Bernice. She met the love of her life, Sidney Garfield McCoy, in Saskatoon, before he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force to serve his country in World War II. They were married after Sid returned, saying their vows on February 14, 1946 (Valentine’s Day for the Love Birds). They farmed together for 20 years before moving permanently to Saskatoon, raising a family of seven children over that time. Through the decades this spirited family would blossom to include 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, all of whom loved her dearly. Evelyn worked hard for her big and busy family – a fantastic cook, seamstress, gardener and homemaker. Later, once her children were older, she also enjoyed her years of service working at The Bay. She was an incredibly strong, proud woman with a sharp, wry sense of humour and she was very much the matriarch and backbone of her close-knit family. Evelyn and Sid loved spending time at their vacation property in Candle Lake and they enjoyed traveling and golfing together. When Sid passed away in 2012, after 66 years of marriage, it was a tremendous blow to Evelyn but she carried on with impressive strength and self-determination. Now she will be reunited with her love. Left to mourn the loss of Evelyn are her children, Terry McCoy (Wenda), Bruce McCoy, Sherry McCoy, Colleen Puchalski, Susan Hodgkinson (Rick), Jackie Famulak (Mike) and Robin Fulton (Al), plus 15 surviving grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. A Private Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (#26-1738 Quebec Ave, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9). Arrangements in care of David Schurr – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
