Obituary
Waschuk, Eva (Biegal)
Eva Waschuk passed away peacefully and stepped into the presence of her Lord and Saviour on February 17, 2020. She born in Hoteshov, Volyn, Poland and was predeceased by her parents John and Polly Biegal, brothers Adam (infant) Bill, Peter and her beloved husband John. She is survived by her sister Jean (Adam), her children Sally (Ron), David, Jim (Diana), Bill (Janice), her grandchildren Joshua, Alexandra, Anna Lisa, her Nephews Ken (Judy), Bruce, Brian (Stacey) and their families.
As a young child, she immigrated with her mother joining her father and grandfather in Canada. The family resided in Kapuskasing, Ontario, where she received her Canadian Citizenship and attended Diamond Jubilee Public school. After a time, the family relocated to a farm in the R.M. of Swan River, Manitoba where she completed her education. Later, she entered the workforce in Toronto, Ontario. Having trusted in Christ from an early age, Eva sang in the choir at her local church, where she also met and married her sweetheart and the love of her life John.
Beginning their lives together in Brantford, Ontario, Eva continued in the workforce until the birth of their daughter. In order to be closer to their families, they moved to Swan River, Manitoba, where Eva and John completed their young family with the addition of three sons. They later moved to Thompson, Manitoba, were they resided for a decade while raising their children. Eva and John finished their years in the workforce in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where they retired.
Eager to travel, Eva enjoyed visiting various places in Canada, USA, USSR, Poland, Russia and Ukraine. As a lifelong learner, she played the violin, spoke and corresponded in four languages and was skilled as a secretary, sales clerk and seamstress including tailoring and fine needlework.
As a homemaker, she always enjoyed working in her kitchen and was known for her baking, home cooked meals along with her generous hospitality. She often welcomed relatives, friends and new immigrants into her home, enjoyed their company and friendship. She also provided lodging to those who were in need and gave provisions and aid in her community to those who experienced disaster or were needy. During her lifetime, Eva fostered four children in her home.
She was a strong support and faithful partner to her husband John. She served the Lord with him in two church pastorates, evangelistic services, bible studies and gatherings in their home, Word of Life Radio broadcasts and mission trips to the former USSR, Poland, Russia, Ukraine and USA. Eva also served in the local church as a gifted singer, Sunday school teacher, ladies ministries and street meetings in various communities. Throughout the years she billeted many missionaries, pastors and evangelists in her home.
Beginning in the late 1940’s Eva initiated an extensive, lifelong ministry sending parcels of provisions and clothing to those in need, not only in Canada but also overseas. She faithfully continued this work well into her 80’s. Eva served at every opportunity, to the glory of God right from her youth. Her Bible and hymnbook were treasured by her. She was a strong and vibrant woman who will be remembered as a beloved friend to many.
Eva spent her final years living at the coast with her family in Tsawwassen, BC. Her last few months were spent at Westshore Laylum retirement community attended by kind, compassionate care givers and her family. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30pm, Tuesday March 3rd at Elim Church, 419 Slimmon Road, Saskatoon.
