Ethel was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan to “Chappie” Wylie (born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan) and Lima Weiler (born in Mildmay, Ontario), the youngest of four children, all of whom predeceased her. Also predeceasing her were her husband Bill (2018) and son Douglas (just one month ago), surviving are her son Rod (Linda), daughter Lisa, and those three almost perfect grandsons Liam, Stuart and Colm. Although she was a depression-era baby she was a happy little girl raised on a farm where she played freely and loved school, and learned the prairie values of self-reliance and to always help your neighbour. After high school she attended the University of Saskatchewan followed by the study of x-ray technology at Saskatoon City Hospital. After a few years working in different locations, including Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, she moved to Calgary where she met a young banker named Bill McIntosh and her life changed forever. After many years of frequent transfers and the addition of three children, Doug, Rod, and Lisa, they were lucky enough to be transferred to Vancouver where they lived and enjoyed life the rest of their days—golfing, skiing, hiking, playing with their grandsons, cheering for the Canucks, wintering in Rancho Mirage at Desert Island Golf Club, travelling, leading a wonderful life with good friends, and especially with their much loved family. Sadly, due to the corona virus, a celebration of her life is not possible but we will all remember Ethel for what she was—a loving mother and wife, adventurous traveller and indomitable spirit.
