It is with heavy hearts that Bobbe’s family announce her passing on Thursday, October 1, 2020, at Brockville General Hospital, Garden Street site. Bobbe Kirkby, of Prescott (New Wexford) at the age of 90 years, born on July 19, 1930 in Cardinal, Ontario. Predeceased by beloved Husband Charles “Chick” Kirkby, whom she married on July 22, 1950. Daughter of the late Oscar A. and Dora “Mildred” (Robertson) Poaps of Cardinal. Cherished Mother of Mark (Laurie) and Dean (friend Pam), all of Prescott. Predeceased by 3 angels who died at birth, Bonnie, Kelly and Joel. Treasured Grandmother (Nannie) of Ryan (Melanie), Justin (Sandy Graham Kirkby) and Josh (Lesley Hubbard), Nicole Layng (Dereck) and Jennifer (Chris Willis). Much adored Great- Grandmother of Tyson, Kennedy, Owen, Mallory, Ethan, Lucas, Camden, Braedyn and Devin Kirkby; Cyara Layng, Spencer & Abbigail Kirkby and many nieces and nephews. Survived by brother-in-law Leo Boivin (friend Susan), Brother-in-law Hall Kirkby and wife Nora. Predeceased by sister Lorraine Armstrong (Donald), Ogdensburg, NY, brothers-in-law Lorne (Bev), and Ken (Jean), of Syracuse, NY, Arthur (Patricia), Donald, Bernard (Nancy), Carl (Madge) and sisters-in-laws Jean Stethem (John), Marg (Jim) Perry, and Patsy Boivin, all of Prescott.
Bobbe’s working career began at the Canada Starch in Cardinal. She also worked at RCA, Prescott and Black & Decker, Brockville. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church, a 60-year member of The Catholic Women’s League, and a long-time Royal Canadian Legion member and Ladies Auxiliary Legion member.
Bobbe’s passion was her love for family and friends. She treasured her precious bond and being best friend with daughter-in-law Laurie. Her many great grandchildren especially gave her much happiness. She enjoyed playing cards, darts, bingo and being part of “The Mystics” with their many performances at The Legion. Bobbe loved her home in New Wexford, overlooking the St. Lawrence River, seeing the first boat in the spring. She loved to laugh, to be the life of the party, lived life on her own terms and remained fiercely independent throughout life.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Mark’s Roman Catholic Church, Prescott, Ontario on Friday, October 9, 2020 at 11 am. Interment to occur at a later date at St. Mark’s Cemetery.
