Obituary of Erik Sorensen
ERIK SORENSEN
It is with great sadness that the family of Erik Sorensen announce his passing on December 15th, 2020 after a brief illness at the age of 87.
Our father Erik was born on October 25th, 1933 in Grindsted, Denmark. He married the love of his life, our mother Yrsa Merte Kristensen on October 31st, 1954. With two children in tow, Solvejg (Steven) and Fred (Cynthia), the rapidly growing family immigrated to Canada in 1957 arriving at Pier 21 in Nova Scotia, then travelling on to make Kingston their home for the next 66 years. 4 more children were born in Kingston, Jim (Virginia),Tony, Jane (Les) and Carl (Victoria).
Spending the next 30 plus years working as a carpenter, Erik provided for his family, passing on to each of his 6 children his honesty and work ethic. Teaching each of his sons his skills at working with their hands.
Everyone who knew Erik will miss his playful sense of humour, his love of music, cards and seeing him dancing with Yrsa.
Working with his 4 sons, Erik built two beautiful homes. He and Yrsa hosted gatherings for their many friends and loved ones having events with all their children’s families several times a year.
Tragically for Erik, was the loss of his fifth child and youngest daughter Jane Jung (Les) on September 4th, 2017 losing her to cancer.
On October 31st, 2020 Erik and Yrsa celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Sadly only weeks later with his family and beloved wife at his side Erik slipped away peacefully.
Erik will be greatly missed by each of his seven grandchildren (Jason Grant, Christopher Sorensen (Angela), Tylor Nicolson (Rachel), Amy Chesney (Nathan), Ethan Sorensen (Emma), Andrew Sorensen and Mathew Sorensen and 5 great-grandchildren Ben, Avery, Kai, Isabel and Abigail .

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Erik
