Obituary
Souma Gobrial passed away on November 17, 2020, ending her fulfilling 85 years on earth, and is now resting peacefully with her husband.
Born August 11, 1935 in Cairo, Egypt to the late Adly Barsoum Hanna (1972) and late Narguis Hanna (1984). She was predeceased by her husband Moheb Gobrial in March 2006. She is survived by her daughter Shereen Gobrial from Calgary, sister Nagwa Alexander (Esmat) from Regina and niece Christine Alexander (Chad Engel) from Regina. She lived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia as a child, then Cairo, Egypt and finally immigrated to Canada with her husband and daughter in April 1968. She lived a full life of work and travel. She worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cairo, Calgary Catholic School Board, Dome Petroleum/Amoco ending her career as a translator with the Calgary Police Service. In retirement, she spent countless hours volunteering at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre.
A Celebration of Souma’s Life will be held at Evan J. Strong Funeral Services on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at 1:00 pm. Due to Covid restrictions, space will be limited to 35. A recording of the service will be available to view the following day on Souma’s online obituary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Heart and Stroke Foundation.
