MacKinnon, Emma Jane (Dunphy), 86-Dartmouth
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Emma Jane MacKinnon, on Monday, September 28, 2020 at Oceanview Manor in Eastern Passage NS. Born at White Point N.S., she was the daughter of the late Gordon Dunphy and Ellen Jane (Fitzgerald).
She married John MacKinnon, “Johnnie”, and the two eventually moved from Cape Breton to Dartmouth where they continued to raise their children. She was completely devoted to her family and her greatest joy was in taking care of them. Her love was demonstrated during the many meals she prepared and served with unconditional satisfaction. Her homemade bread, molasses cookies and sweet loaf will forever be a reminder of how much she cared. Watching her family grow and accomplish many great things brought her unmeasured pride. She was a devote Catholic and believed strongly in the protection of our Heavenly Father and ensured all her loved ones were never without a personal Miraculous Medal.
Emma was a loving and caring mother to Jerome, Walter (Wanda), Gordon (Theresa), Ernest (Janet), Grant (Rhonda), Margie (Joey) Thibault, and JB (Michelle). She was blessed with 14 grandchildren who she loved like her own and 9 great-grandchildren who loved her dearly. Emma also leaves behind her brother Cyril (Marg), sisters Julie (late Harold) Briand and Diane (David) King. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Johnnie, and brother Alex (late Mable) Dunphy.
Visitation will take place at Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen Street, from 6pm-9pm on October 01, 2020. The funeral Mass will take place at St. Clement Church, 16 Gaston Rd, Dartmouth on October 02nd 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Gerald David as celebrant, assisted by Fr. Peter Hanna.
