Emily ELSIE Margaret (Dougherty) Stairs
1917-2020
Emily Elsie Margaret (Dougherty) Stairs, 103 years of age, of Island
View, NB, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2020 at her home with
her loving family by her side. Elsie was born in Debec, NB on June
29, 1917, a daughter of the late James and Clemina (Teed)
Dougherty.
Elsie had many passions in life besides her family. She loved square
dancing, hunting, fishing, playing darts and never missed a day or
night of dancing with the fiddlers in Harvey.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Lofstrom (Brian); six sons,
Alton (Donna), Earl (Sharon), Eugene (Mary Jane), Hugh, Junior
(Elaine) and David (Chris); eighteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great
grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Albert
E. Stairs in 1963; a daughter Shirley Bamford; a son Robert C. Stairs;
sisters, Georgie MacIlroy and Louise Spinney; a brother Melvin
Dougherty; and a daughter-in-law, Deanna Stairs.
Visiting hours will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis
Drive, Nackawic, NB on Friday evening from 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service
will be held, by invitation only, on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 2
pm from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Terry Messer officiating.
Interment at Temperance Vale Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charles Stairs, Brian Stairs, Corey Stairs, Monica
Lofstrom, Angie Stairs and Jennifer Stairs.
For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Elsie, the family
has suggested the Temperance Vale Cemetery or a charity of the
donor’s choice.
