Elmer Perley
1938-2020
Following a courageous battle with cancer, Elmer Louis Perley of
Tobique First Nation, NB, passed away peacefully at Hotel Dieu St.
Joseph Hospital on August 27, 2020.
Elmer was born in Tobique First Nation, NB, on May 6, 1938. He was the
son of the late Gabriel and Maria (Laporte) Perley. Elmer leaves
behind his daughters, Nancy Polches (Sylvia) of Peter Dana Point, ME,
Eva Sockabasin of Peter Dana Point, ME, Sarah Sappier of Tobique First
Nation, NB; his sons, Larry Sockabasin Sr., Raymond Sockabasin Sr.
(Mary Ann), and Thomas Perley (Morgan) all of Tobique First Nation,
NB; his sister, Faith Masterson of Tobique First Nation, NB; his
brothers, Jerry Perley of Tobique First Nation, NB, Patrick Perley
(Janice) of Fredericton, NB, and David Perley (Imelda) of Tobique
First Nation, NB; along with numerous grandchildren, great
grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Elmer was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Hazel Perley
(Sockabasin); his sisters, Regina Looman, Bertha Sappier, Geraldine
Perley, and Georginna Perley-Kipp; his brothers, Maurice, Eugene, Carl
Sr., and Rex Perley.
Funeral service was held on Monday, August 31, 2020 at 11 am from St.
Ann’s Catholic Church, Tobique First Nation, NB. Elmer’s nephew,
Father Curtis Sappier celebrated. Interment followed in the parish
cemetery.
Music for the service was by Tracey Hamilton and the Native Drummers.
The eulogy was given by David Perley.
Pallbearers were Aaron Nicholas, Kelly Sappier, Lyndon Sappier, Jamie
Sappier, Trent Sappier, and Spencer Perley.
Arrangements were entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home, Perth-Andover,
NB.
