Obituary of Elizabeth Eva Tinant
Betty Wolfe/Tinant (nee: Elizabeth Eva Schaan) age 89, was born in Young, Saskatchewan on May 16, 1930. She suffered a devastating stroke in October, 2019 and passed away January 22, 2020.
At the end of grade 12, Betty took a train to Abbotsford, BC for a summer job in the orchards picking fruit. She loved picking wild berries all her life. In 1949, she moved to Kerrobert, Saskatchewan to work as a telephone operator. There she met Giles Wolfe, whom she married in 1953. They raised four sons: Ken, Rob, Steven and Murray Wolfe. Widowed in 1981, she became owner-operator of the family construction company. Following its sale in 1983, she began working as an aide at Buena Vista Lodge.
Betty moved to Saskatoon in 1985 where she worked as a ward aide at Royal University Hospital for ten years. Stirred by a strong sense of adventure, she loved to travel. New experiences included flying in a helicopter and a hot air balloon, and a ride on a motorcycle at age 85.
She married Rene Tinant in 1992. They enjoyed dancing, traveling and socializing. Rene passed away in 2012.
Betty enjoyed family visits and time with her grandchildren. By helping to organize multiple family reunions, she brought relatives together for extended visiting. Betty was independent and looked forward to her free time. Favourite activities included gardening, travel, reading novels, shopping with niece Carol Green, watching curling, doing crossword or find-a-word puzzles, and especially dancing. She was predeceased by her parents, Bernard and Mary Schaan, husbands Giles Wolfe and Rene Tinant, granddaughters Megan and Shivawn Wolfe, brothers Phil (Obrene), Ed (Hazel), and Ray Schaan, and brothers-in-law, Percy Betker, and Richard Dawe. Missing her dearly will be surviving family members: siblings Len (Viola) Schaan, Lorine Betker, and Kathy (Lloyd) Tocher, sons Ken (Rita), Rob (Carol), Steven (Karen), and Murray (Susan); grandchildren Nic (Keelan), Robyn (Jesse), Erin (Kyle), Kendra (Eric), Kathleen, Holly (James), Aidan, Lukas, Lauren, Eli, and Katherine; great-grandchildren Miriam, Ava-Ray, Grace, Kyril, Rayland, Giles, Adelaide, Everett, and Macrina; and brother-in-law John (Shirley) Wolfe.
The prayer vigil will take place at St. Volodymyr chapel, Louise Place, Saskatoon, on Thursday, January 30, at 7pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Spirit Church, Saskatoon, on Friday, January 31 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Children’s Wish Foundation, Kinsmen Association, or SaskAbilities.
