Obituary
Mergen, Elizabeth
1941-2020
It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth Mergen announce her passing on November 12, 2020. Elizabeth was born May 26, 1941 on the family farm just outside of Fenwood, SK. She attended Yorkton Composite High School and went on to study nursing in Providence Hospital in Moose Jaw where she received her diploma in 1963. Elizabeth and George met in Moose Jaw and were married on October 12, 1963. They went on to have five children in the next six years. Her passion for nursing continued, and Elizabeth worked at St. Paul’s Hospital and later Royal University Hospital in the maternity ward for over 30 years helping new mothers and babies. Nothing gave Elizabeth more joy than her family. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother attending many activities that they were involved in. You would often find her working in the yard and enjoying her garden and was particularly proud of her lily patch. Elizabeth enjoyed a good game of bingo and was always known to be able to handle her 24 cards and still be able to watch yours. Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 57 years, George Mergen and her five children: Susan (Brad) Berrns, Judy (Daniel) du Chalard, Tim Mergen, Pam Kays and Leah Mergen. She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Ashley, Nicholas, Adam, Carter, Ian and Logan, as well as her brother Donald (Maria) Blishchak and sister Victoria (Dmytro) Zaharia. A private celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at RUH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada.
