Elizabeth Betty Mary Campbell Young 2020

It is with sadness and grateful hearts that we, the family, announce that Elizabeth “Betty”Mary (Campbell) Young has passed on to the eternal reward promised to her on June 18, 2020.
Born in Sydney Mines and raised on Cottage Street, Betty was the eldest daughter of the late Peter and Ethel (MacKinnon) Campbell.
Betty trained as an CNA at Camp Hill Hospital in Halifax, graduating in 1966. She worked extensively in the healthcare field both in Cape Breton and Halifax, until her retirement. Betty was the consummate caregiver, always putting the well-being of others above herself and working hard to instill a solid foundation for her children. She had an unshakeable Catholic Faith and devotion to the Virgin Mary, which never left her, even as she progressed through the last stages of Alzheimer’s disease.
Betty is survived by her husband of 52 years, James “Jimmy” Young; children, Vanessa Robertson, Jim (Kate Taylor-Young), Debbie Earle and Johnathan, all of Halifax; grandchildren, Allan, Aaron, Shaylene, Arianna, Eden, Kiera, Ben, Samuel and Gabriel and great-grandchildren, Allan and Cameron; siblings, Mary (Clement) Pouliot, Hubley, Alice Wilson, Elmsdale,Kenny (Sheila), North Sydney and Donald, Sydney Mines, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her son, David Anthony (in infancy);brother, Gerald; sister, Catherine Mont, as well as son-in-law, Brent Earle and brother-in-law, Edward Wilson.
We want to extend our thanks to The Cove Guest Home and our deepest gratitude to the staff of Creative Care for becoming our second family, for the love and support given to Betty during this journey.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 6 at 10 a.m., at Holy Family Parish, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Social distancing and masks are required at all times. Burial will take place at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel.
