Elinor “Joan” Lee
1932-2020
Unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on
January 19, 2020, Elinor “Joan” (Matthews) Lee, wife of
Sheldon A. Lee of Bonny River NB. Born in L’Etete NB on June 16, 1932,
she was a daughter of the late Russell and Lillias Matthews. A loving
wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, in addition
to her husband Sheldon, Joan is survived by her son: Terry (Brenda)
Lee of Bonny River NB; daughters: Wanda (Doug) Harrison of Nasonworth
NB and Lynn (Paul) Orser of Rothesay NB; five grandchildren: Eric
Orser of Rothesay NB, Hugh Orser (Lindsay) of Quispamsis NB, Tammy
(Blair) Huntley of Alberta, Angela (Greg) Tufts of Saint John NB and
Taylor Lee of Bonny River NB; four great-grandchildren: Nicholas,
Jacob, Lilly and Georgia; two sisters: Barbara Taylor of St. George NB
and Patricia Matthews of L’Etete NB; several nieces, nephews and
cousins. Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by one sister:
Eunice Matthews.
Prior to retirement, Joan once worked as a telephone operator and also
was a school teacher at the Lawrence Station School. She was an animal
lover who enjoyed quilting, knitting and tending to her garden and was
a member of a local gardening club. She spent many years supporting
her husband, Sheldon, in local politics and she was often referred to
as the “resident political analyst.” Joan was active in her
community and was a member of the L’Etete Church of Christ as well as
being on the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bonny River Fire Department. Her
love, support, determination and friendship will be sadly missed by
her loving family and numerous friends.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26
Portage Street, St. George NB. There will be no visitation. A memorial
service will be held at the St. George Funeral Home Chapel on
Wednesday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Greg Card officiating. Immediately
following the service, a reception will be held at the Bonny River
Fire Hall. In Joan’s memory, donations to Charlotte County Cancer or
to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
