Obituary
CHASE, Eleanor
Eleanor Boyd Chase (nee Mawhinney) was born in Newtownards, County Down, Northern Ireland on September 7, 1936. Eleanor immigrated to Canada in May of 1956 at the request of her pen pal and future husband Bob. After their marriage on December 22, 1956, Eleanor started work at the Royal Bank of Canada as a clerk and it was during this time they welcomed their daughters Donna and Heather. After Heather’s birth Eleanor went to work as an admitting clerk at St. Paul’s Hospital. She had a successful career and retired as the Director of Admitting in 1996.
Eleanor loved her family and the many friends she made throughout the years. She had many stories to tell and a great sense of humor. She will be missed but her legacy lives on.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, Bob Chase. She is survived by her two daughters: Donna (Ken) Sikorski and Heather (Dale) Panchuk; five grandchildren: Kristopher (Jennifer) Sikorski, Kelly (Janine) Sikorski, Jared (Becky) Panchuk, Jeremy (Cecile) Panchuk, and Noelle (Stuart) Kolla; and blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Desirae Sikorski, Chase, Cohen, Kiera, Kelsea Sikorski, Jamison Panchuk, Ben and Emily Kolla.
On May 18, 2020, Eleanor, the wild Irish rose left this world to return to the waiting arms of her husband Bob. Eleanor leaves these parting words:
When tomorrow starts without me
And I’m not here to see
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
Are filled with tears for me
I wish so much you wouldn’t cry
The way you did today
While thinking of the many things
We didn’t get to say
I know how much you love me
As much as I love you
And each time you think of me
I know you’ll miss me too
But when tomorrow starts without me
Please try to understand
That an angel came and called my name
And took me by the hand
And said my place was ready
In Heaven far above
And that I’d have to leave behind
All those I dearly love
But when I walked through Heaven’s gate
I felt so much at home
When God looked down and smiled at me
From His great golden throne
He said this is eternity
And all I promised you
Today your life on earth is past
But here it starts anew
I promise no tomorrow
For today will always last
And since each day’s the same way
There’s no longing for the past
So when tomorrow starts without me
Don’t think we’re far apart
For every time you think of me
I’m right here in your heart
Until we meet again, we love you Nana.
