Elaine Janette Corbin 19242020

Elaine Janette Corbin
1924-2020
Elaine Janette Corbin, age 96, passed away suddenly at
Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville on October 27, 2020.
Elaine, a daughter of the late Ira and Beulah Rafuse, New Ross, was
born on October 1, 1924 in the small Lunenburg County community of
Mill Road. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family
– a large family of five girls and three boys. She is
survived by two sons, Barry (Ann) Corbin, Dwight (Doris) Corbin;
daughters, Marilyn Sturgeon and Jocelyn Fielden; son-in-law, Darrell
Shay; 13 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. Elaine was
predeceased by her husband, Doran Corbin, her parents, all her
siblings, daughter, Linda Shay and son-in-law, Tom Sturgeon. Elaine
and Doran moved to Kings County from New Ross in 1946 eventually
settling in Lakeville where she and Doran raised their family of five
children and became very active members of the community. As well as
raising five active children, Elaine enjoyed the outdoors working in
the orchards and fields for a number of neighbouring farms. She and
Doran were enthusiastic campers relishing their time spent with close
friends at Keji and Graves Island. Their extended bus trips to
Newfoundland, Nashville, across Canada and the USA were fondly
remembered. Elaine was very active in her church, serving as Sunday
School Superintendent and assisting with a variety of church projects
as well as Women’s Institute, the Jean Rushton Auxiliary,
TOPS, the Apple Valley Seniors and as a lifetime member of the Order
of Eastern Star. She is remembered for her devotion to her family, her
easy-going and pleasant attitude and her willingness to assist
wherever she could. Her grandchildren speak of the delicious food
served at various holiday feasts around the small table in the cramped
dining room in the small home in Lakeville where she and Doran lived
for over 50 years until they moved to Evergreen Home for Special Care
in 2017.The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday,
November 4, 2020 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Rev.
Chris Johnston officiating. The funeral will be limited to family and
registered guests only. Those wishing to attend are asked to register
their intention (name and telephone number) at decorbin@eastlink.ca by

open to community members and other friends, will be held at 3:30 p.m.
on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Billtown United Baptist
Church Fund, Evergreen Home for Special Care or a charity of your
