Obituary
Effie (Bowman) Rathgeber was born on March 11, 1925 in Wenham Valley, AB. She lived her entire life within miles of where she was born and couldn’t have been more happy. On November 26, 2020 Effie passed away peacefully in Breton Long Term Care with her family by her side, and in the thoughts and prayers of everyone who loved her.
Effie was predeceased by her parents, John and Ida (Impey) Bowman; her siblings; her loving husband, Bill Rathgeber; and her son, John Rathgeber; and many other friends and family.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Roger) Stefura; grandchildren, Annie (Justin), Eric (Kirsten) and Sarah (Kyle); her 5 great-grandchildren, Becca, Gunner, Payton, Daxon and Knox; and numerous extended family and friends.
Effie married Bill on December 26, 1950 and they settled on their farm in Wenham Valley. Here they milked cows, grew a huge garden, made hay and built their family. They had two children John and Julie. Effie loved the farm. She loved her chickens, livestock, pets and garden. But most of all she loved her family and friends.
Effie was a very social person, she loved to visit, share her stories, listen to others and she always had a smile on her face. Anyone who walked through her door was greeted with coffee, tea, food and of course a huge smile.
Effie was always such a positive person, always had advice, an ear to listen, a smile to give and her home was always open. She was poised and genuine. She had a great sense of humour and always told it as it is. She will be missed by so many but never forgotten.
Donations in Effie’s memory are gratefully accepted to West Pine Lodge (5 Ave E, Winfield, AB. T0C 2X0), or Breton Continuing Care Centre (4919 49 Avenue, Breton, AB. T0C 0P0).
