Obituary
Born in Calgary, AB to John and Lola Kerr. He gained his love for traveling at an early age. After his parent’s divorce his mom married William Cooper and they moved from Calgary to Abbotsford, BC then to Creston, BC. He left school at the age of 14 and joined the circus as a roadie, cleaning stalls and running the Tilt-a-whirl. He toured across Canada by train before making it back to Calgary, AB. There he met the love of his life, Marie Gaede. They eloped to Idaho on New Year’s Eve by telling everyone they went to pick up a loaf of bread. They lived in Calgary and had their son, Wesley. Not long after they moved to Shore Acers, BC where their niece, Marlene, lived with them for a while. They moved to Nelson, BC where they had their daughter, Faith. Work took them back to Calgary, AB. He was a trucker and created the CB handle ‘Big Mover’. He loved being on the highway delivering glass for Bogardus Willson Ltd. In 1984, Marie passed away and he gave up the road to raise his kids as a single dad. On Christmas Eve 1993, he married Ivy DeVulder. He gained three step kids, Rick, Linda and Cathy which he embraced as his own and became an instant “Papa” to Jamie, Crystal and Christopher. He drove cars for Calgary Auto Auction and then Adessa Auto Auction. At the age of 64 he was forced to retire after having six bypass heart surgery while on holidays. He loved camping. He was part of Holiday Trails and Bow Valley Good Sams. He was also a member of The Danish Canadian Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles 2098 and the Royal Canadian Legion. In 2007 his first great granddaughter, Aleena, was born. They were inseparable. He gained three grandsons, Dawson, Zach and Noah in 2009. He loved being with his grand kids. Two more great granddaughters were born, Ivy in 2015 and Amelia in 2016. His grandson, Marcus was born in 2018 which was one of his greatest joys. He is survived by his children Rick DeVulder, Linda (Vern) Schroeder, Cathy Bedier, Wesley Cooper, Faith (David) Cooper-Receveur; grandchildren Jamie (Brad) Hubbler, Crystal Lauer, Chris DeVulder, Dawson Receveur, Zach Receveur, Noah Receveur, Marcus Receveur; great granddaughters Aleena, Ivy and Amelia. As well as other extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, John Kerr, William and Lola Cooper, his sister Joyce Cullum, step-brother Richard Cooper, brother William Cooper, his wife Marie Cooper, his wife Ivy Cooper, his nephews John Melnik and Tyler Osborn. A celebration of life will be planned for when it is safe for everyone to gather together. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of your choice.
