Obituary of Edith Elizabeth Hickey
The passing of Edith Elizabeth Hickey of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late James Hickey occurred on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Eden’s Retirement Villa, Fredericton, NB. Born on May 12, 1926 in Jacquet River, NB, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Harriet Firlotte. She was a spinner for Canadian Cottons for 18 years. Edith was a member of St. Anthony’s Church and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #14, Marysville. She enjoyed knitting, reading and playing cribbage.
Edith is survived by her daughter, Shirley Rowan (John) of Waasis, NB; sons, Ray Hickey (Karen) of Windsor, ON, Kenny Hickey (Bonnie) of Fredericton and Bob Hickey (Juanita) of Rusagonis; grandchildren, Valerie Hickey, Sarah Hickey and William Rowan; great-grandson, Dawson Rowan; sisters, Doris Walker of Aylmer, ON and Luella Hickey of Fredericton, NB; brothers, Philip Firlotte (Joanne) of London, ON; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Edith was predeceased by her sisters, Patricia Finnie, Gladys Smith and Audrey Wright; brothers, Edwin and Don Firlotte and an infant brother; partner, Gerry Maillet.
A Private Memorial Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Friday, November 13, 2020 at 2 pm with Father Maria Arakiam Chinnappan officiating. Due to current restrictions the service will be live webcast on the funeral home website. Interment will take place at St. Anthony’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
