Edel Brasher
February 25, 1927 – October 01, 2020

Edel Marie Brasher passed away peacefully at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on October 1st, 2020 in her 93rd year. She was surrounded by her children David and Marie and granddaughter Christina.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children David (Darlene) and Marie, her grandchildren Christina, Jennifer, Angela, great grand-daughter Anastasia, her sister Edith, brother-in-law Lloyd, nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
Edel was predeceased by her loving husband, John Brasher, her sister, Nancy Anderson and nephew Brian Anderson.
Edel was born February 25th, 1927 in Denmark. Her parents decided to move to Canada after receiving an invitation from friends they knew in Denmark and arrived to Canada in approximately 1930. They began working along side their friends on a farm in the country. They moved several times during the early days and had Edel’s sisters, Edith and Nancy, before settling in Oakville. Edel met her soon to be husband, John, and they were married in 1948, the newlyweds owned a hatchery until they decided to start a family and sold the business.
Edel and John had two children David and Marie, the family was often together and enjoyed swimming in the backyard pool, having picnics and visits to the lake.
Edel started work as a bookkeeper at home initially, then started working at the Oakville Arena as a bookkeeper and she took care of various bookings for ice time and recreational activities. She began working at the Town of Oakville offices where she was a Supervisor in the Accounts Payable department. She was an employee for approximately 25 years. During those years Edel enjoyed upgrading her skills and taking various courses of interest; Edel was a big proponent of higher education and would have loved to have attended University herself.
Right before Mom retired Dad passed away. Mom worked for a few more months until she decided that she wanted to pursue her desire for travel and that’s when Pat & Edel’s Travels was born. She was able to travel to many places in Europe and the USA as well as Canada which was her greatest passion. Mom enjoyed the groups that she travelled with as much as the destinations. It was a very happy time for her. Mom volunteered at the Sir John Colbourn Seniors Recreation Centre for many years as well and made some great friends and aquaintances. She also received a 25 year volunteer award for her services at the centre.
Mom decided to slow down a bit a few years ago so she gave up the travelling but she always loved to talk about her great experiences.
Edel was the pillar of the family, sensible, logical, practical and a woman of principle. She led by example, encouraged women to be independent, and was a strong believer in formal education. She was a woman of her word and highly respected by all. Edel was known for her delicious Danish cooking and baking. Mom was always there for us, just a phone call away.
Edel will be sadly missed by all of her family. At the time of her passing a beautiful double rainbow appeared outside her hospital window. We are comforted to know that she has joined our father and other loved ones who were waiting for her with open arms.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Edel Brasher February 25 1927 October 01 2020..
