Ed Agnew 2020

With his family at his side on September 12, 2020 at 86 years of age. Beloved husband of 62 years to Eva (Nee Graham). Loving father of Erin and husband Andrew Underwood, Jennifer Agnew, Laura and husband Robert Hollands, Maureen Agnew. Cherished Nonno of Nigel, and Grampa to Kelsey, Tarleen, Mitchell, Dale, Ethan, Meaghan, and Keenan. Dear brother of Carol, and the late Robert, Andy, Jeanne, Sam, Pat, Vicky, and Dale. Ed was cherished by his large Irish family and will be fondly remembered for his dedication to the City of Windsor. He will be remembered for his kindness, compassion, charitable work, laughter, golf & yes, whistling! Ed retired from the City of Windsor as Commissioner of Finance in 1991. Among Ed’s many achievements was the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal. He was a man of integrity and a true Irish Gentleman!
Born and raised in Windsor, Ed became a Chartered Accountant through Queen’s University (1959) and a lifetime member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He was Commissioner of Finance of the City of Windsor until 1991, then Government Grants Consultant until 2007. His athletic achievements included All City Quarterback, All Star track in 100 and 220, Champion swimmer and selected All Star track shortstop – Jr. Baseball.
Ed spent his time assisting local charities, too numerous to mention. In addition, he had consulted professionally on various projects of interest, including the Canada South Festival Network, Windsor Pride, Downtown Windsor Business Accelerator, St. Clair College Mediaplex and the Assumption Church Restoration campaign.
Ed was also an accomplished musician. He sang in the Championship 12 member boys’ choir; was a gold medalist in trumpet at Kiwanis Music Festival and was a renowned whistler. His long list of volunteer experience included being Founding President and on the Board of Directors for the Capitol Theatre & Arts Centre, Past Chair for the Heart and Stroke Person to Person Campaign, Treasurer and on the Board of Directors for the Windsor/Es Sports Halle of Fame, and President of the Circle of Seven.
Ed follows the proven philosophy, “what you give in friendship and love is returned 10 fold which then gives 10 times more to give.”
If you so desire, donations to Circle of 7 would be appreciated by the family.
A public Celebration of Ed’s life will be held at a future date.
