HICKS, Earl “Blair”
1927 – 2020
It is with sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Mr. Earl “Blair” Hicks at the Lacombe Hospital on Monday, March 30, 2020 at the age 92 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his son; Darrel (Donna) Hicks of Lacombe, Alberta; his grandchildren, Alisha Hicks and Brandon Hicks and one great grandson, Ryland.
Blair was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Lorraine Hicks; his parents, Henry Earl and Alice Elenor Hicks; his brothers and sisters, Charles Louis Hicks, Elenor Rosetta Hicks, George Hicks, Kathlyn Hicks, Hubert Madil Hicks, Clarence Delbert Hicks and Shirley May Hicks (Nielsen).
Blair was born in Elk Point, Alberta are where he received his education and was raised. He met Barbara and they were married in 1954. They lived in Camrose for a short time where he worked as a mechanic until moving to Red Deer, Alberta where they resided for many years. He then moved for a short time to Lacombe to be near his family. He and Barbara worked their entire careers with the Roland Michener Centre in Red Deer. Blair in the maintenance department and Barbara as a nurse’s aid.
Blair was an excellent craftsman and loved working with and recycling wood, creating something useable and beautiful. He was a prankster with a fabulous sense of humour. He was never idle and always smiling, a happy and content person. A small man with a big heart, aka “Little Grandpa”. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten.
A Service for Blair will be held at a later date when he will be interred in the Ottawa Cemetery, Vermilion, Alberta in a family plot.
