Dwayne Leonard Andrews passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 leaving this world much as he lived his life, surrounded by loving family with a loud, fast Porsche in his driveway. Dwayne’s particular skill was to bring people together to laugh, share and enjoy life so it is only fitting that his last months were spent doing just that even as he fought Glioblastoma with dignity, strength and his signature dry wit.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on February 26, 1971 Dwayne moved to Florida at an early age but his heart remained in Nova Scotia and he returned to Halifax in 1989 to attend Dalhousie University. Dwayne embraced all aspects of life with passion and generosity but his true love, aside from family and friends was collecting and restoring cars. He also enjoyed the game of golf and his sense of fashion made sure he was always the best dressed player. Dwayne had a successful career as an information technology executive working for industry leaders in both Canada and the United States. He lived in Dartmouth, Boca Raton, Raleigh Durham, Charleston and Toronto. In every city Dwayne collected a tight and loving group of friends but the core of this group, throughout his life, remained his best buddies from Grade school, a testament to his devotion to friendship. Dwayne was an inventive and accomplished cook whose love of wine, cigars and storytelling made every evening spent in his kitchen a treat. Favourite story topics included car rallies with his brother Kevin in their Porsche 928, growing up on the horse racing circuit with his father Ted, time spent with his Mother, brother Scott and Grandparents at the family cottage in Pugwash, world travels with his love Odie and even the occasional fish story. Dwayne was also a devoted and involved Father who adored his children and affectionately dispensed his particular brand of fatherly guidance on subjects both big and small.
Dwayne will be lovingly remembered by his wife Odie Luangrath, children Sebastian and Isabel, parents Ted (Marilyn) Andrews, brothers Scott (Sharon) Andrews and Kevin (Christine) Andrews, father in law Southin (Khamphong) Luangrath and sisters-in-law Margaret (John) McQuay and Catharine (Nazaire) Pelletier. Dwayne will be missed by his many nephews and nieces, who loved spending time with their fun Uncle. Dwayne is also survived by his Grandfather Edward Andrews, Godfather Wayne Andrews and Godmother Nancy Cameron. Dwayne was loved by many including his childhood friends Mike O’Brien, Craig MacDonald, Owen Johnson, Lonnie Cameron, Glen Cluett and Brian O’Rourke. The family welcomes donations in Dwayne’s name to the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research at Sunnybrook Hospital.
