Douglass Nelson
Gamble – 93, Truro,
passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2020, at Colchester East
Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late
Arthur and Elizabeth (MacAuley) Gamble.
Doug worked at CN Express in Toronto and following
retirement, he and his late wife, Mary, returned to Nova Scotia. He
was always known for his humour and generosity.
Douglass is survived by his daughters, Audrey Gamble (John
Merriman), Hamilton, Ontario; Arlene (Don) Piercey, Dartmouth;
sisters, Susan (Norman) Tooley, Agincourt, Ontario; Noreen (John,
deceased) Thornbeck, Palmerston, Ontario; grandchildren and great
grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife,
Mary (Diggins); sisters, Kathleen (Victoria, British Columbia), Grace
(Dartmouth), Elsie (Sheet Harbour), Lillian (Dartmouth); brothers,
Arnold (Ottawa, Ontario), Tommy (Scarborough, Ontario).
Thanks to cousins, Charlotte MacVicar and Marie Faulkner and
their families, who welcomed Dad and Mom to Truro and hosted
many fun times. As well, thank you to his many kind nieces and nephews
for staying in touch with Dad, especially during the Covid-19
pandemic.
Private family interment will be held 12:30 p.m., Saturday,
August 15, 2020, at St. Mary The Virgin Episcopal Anglican Church
Cemetery, Bayfield, Antigonish County, The Reverend Sue Channen
officiating. (Due to
Covid-19 and Public Health requirements and size of the cemetery, a
maximum of 50 people will be permitted to attend and masks are
required; please bring your own chair and practice physical
distancing.)If so desired, donations in
Douglass’ memory to Heart and Stroke Foundation are
welcomed.
