Obituary of Douglas Allan Smedley
On Saturday, June 27, 2020, at the Bobier Villa, Dutton, Douglas Allan Smedley passed away at the age of 79. Born in Zone Township, Thamesville on July 23rd, 1940 to the late Ellen (née Boothroyd) and Christopher Smedley. Predeceased by his wife Dianne Smedley (2014), whom he was married to for 53 years. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Kim Smedley and son, Allen (Tina) Smedley, granddaughters: Krystal (Kyle) Venner and Chelsea (Tyler) White and great-granddaughters: Alexa and Taylor Venner. Dear brother of Mary Jane (Phil) Mcdonnell, Charles Smedley, and Irene (Edward) Galloway. Predeceased by brothers: Robert, John, Glen and Melvin Smedley and sisters: Geraldine Tong and Ruth Smedley. Survived by his sisters-in-law: Helen (Joe) Janssens, Joanne Pembleton, Judy Semensky and Barb Page. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Doug worked as a farmer in his early years but transitioned to working in construction for more than 30 years, where he retired from Hira. He enjoyed camping, travelling, family reunions and walking his dog Bugsy, whom slept, travelled and walked by his side.
Doug was a resident of Dutton. Recently, he resided at the Bobier Villa Nursing Home.
Cremation has taken place. Private interment of ashes at a later date in Strathroy Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations to the Daffodil Society Auxiliary Cancer or the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to DENNING’S OF RODNEY (519-785-0810).
