Obituary
With great sadness the family of Douglas Norman Arstad announces his passing on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at the age of 97 years.
Doug will be lovingly remembered by sons, Dave (Sabine) and Steve (Judy); his four grandchildren, Meagan, (Jeremy), Hayley (Morgan), Alyssa and Sacha; sister-in-law, Kaye Arstad.
Doug was born in Waskada, Manitoba on July 19, 1923 but was raised near Fergus, Ontario. He served as a leading aircraft man in England during the Second World War as a private in the Royal Canadian Air Force, joining the war effort at age 23 and serving until September, 1945.
He continued to work in the aviation field, joining AVRO Aircraft in Malton, Ontario.
Doug was working for the company on Black Friday, February 20, 1959, the day the Avro Arrow project was cancelled.
He continued working in the aircraft industry for Douglas Aircraft before moving on to careers in the investment and building industries.
Doug married Mary Litwyn of Drayton Valley, Alberta on July 30, 1955. The family lived in Brampton, Orangeville and Parry Sound, Ontario before moving to British Columbia where they settled in West Kelowna in 1986.
They were married 55 years before Mary’s death in 2010.
He is also predeceased by sister, Jean, brother, Charles, and brother-in-law, Don Cox.
Doug will always be remembered for his free spirit, easygoing manner and friendly nature.
