DAVIDSON, Douglas George – Peacefully surrounded by his children and youngest sister at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Thursday, October 15th, 2020 at the age of 91 after complications from a fall. Doug Davidson of Pembroke beloved husband for 70 plus years of the late Eileen Mary Davidson (nee Kelly). Loving father of Coleen Davidson (Jean C. Carriere), Brian Davidson (Janice Olaveson), Patrick Davidson (Diane Weeks), devoted grandfather to Zacharie Davidson-Carriere (Kayley Patterson), Darija Davidson, Dreuanah Davidson. Loved by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents William and Catherine Davidson (nee Valliquette). Dear brother of Diane Davidson, Flora Slinger and Patricia Brown. Predeceased by siblings Sheila Diebel, Dorothy Hicks, Laura Leduc, John Davidson, Lloyd Davidson and Freda Pelletier. Doug was a hardworking, caring and active man of many talents who led a full and rich life. He was athletic, and in his younger years, turned down an offer to play in the NHL, deciding instead to be with Eileen. He was active in his community of Kapuskasing – coaching hockey and lacrosse. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus and Ducks Unlimited. With Eileen’s encouragement he became the Chairman of the Catholic School Board in Kapuskasing. He loved the great outdoors and was happy hunting and fishing with his friends and sons at the Currie Creek Camp. He loved snowmobiling with Eileen and their “gang” of friends. He was a masterful gardener, a talented builder and fixer of all things. Until his retirement at 60, he worked as Woodlands Manager for Spruce Falls Pulp and Paper Company. Upon retirement he and Eileen spent 23 happy winters in Florida, in between numerous trips to visit grandchildren and children. He was naturally inquisitive and interested in everyone and everything. Doug was always there to lend a hand for his family and many friends – a very worthy way to spend a life. We will miss him so very much but can be comforted that he is now with Eileen – the love of his life. Respecting Doug’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to the constraints of the Covid-19 pandemic, a Celebration of Life will take place in the Summer of 2021. A special thank you to Chartwells Pembroke Heritage Retirement Residence staff, and to the nurses and doctors in the ICU at the Ottawa Civic for their caring and compassion. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Carefor Health and Community Services of Renfrew County or Ducks Unlimited. Arrangements by the
