Doug Christopher Zorn Saturday November 28th 2020

Sad to advise that Douglas Christophe Zorn passed away peacefully of natural causes on
November 28,2020. Doug was born on August 28,1934 to Adam and Leora Zorn at Virden,
Manitoba. He was predeceased by two brothers- Donald born in 1936 and passed away in
2000- Kenneth born in 1938 and passed away in 2016.
In 1958 he married the love of his life,Catherine Ross R.N. of Oak Point, New Brunswick who
passed away December 25,2015. He is survived by three daughters, Kelly (Murray) Dickson
of Grande Cache, AB, Lynn(Seppo) Belcher of North Battleford, SK and Nancy Zorn (Lloyd
Culbert) of Meadow Lake, SK. He had five grandchildren Meighan (Jason) Baird of Calgary,
AB, Caitlin Dickson (Dain Halkyard) of Grande Prairie, AB, Richard (Nataliia) Belcher of
Labelle, NS, Samantha (Aaron) Fox of Fort McMurray, AB, and Laura ( Blair) Harper of
Battleford, SK. He is also survived by ten great grandchildren.
On turning’ 18 years old Doug applied to joint he RCMP and on May 18,1953 he signed on to
what would be a 35 year career with the force. He took equitation and the first part of his
training in Regina and the second part in Ottawa. On completion of training he was posted to
“A” Division traffic and GlS. He was then transferred to “J” Division New Brunswick serving at
Fredericton, Moncton, Bathurst, Newcastle and St. John. Whilst stationed in Newcastle, he
met his wife to be who was finishing her final year of training to become a Registered Nurse.
On June2 1, 1958 they were married at Burnt Church, NB.
In the fall of 1958 they made the long transfer to Melville, SK. During his career he was
transferred to the following destinations: North Battleford Rural, Meadow Lake, Green Lake,
Humboldt (promoted to Cpl), Esterhazy (promoted to Sgt), Biggar, North Battleford (North &
South Section NCO), l /C North Battleford City (promoted to S/Sgt). Whilst serving in this
position, his wife Catherine, was given the position of Director of Nursing in 1979 in Meadow
Lake. Doug followed her in 1982 as l/C Meadow Lake and retired in 1988 after 35 years in the
force and went on to other vocations.
After a short time with Sk Crop Insurance he spent the next 12 years in Oil-Gas Pipeline
Construction across the four western provinces. Hired first as a landman, he took additional
training and became a registered Safety Officer with the Alberta Construction Assoc. and
ended his career as a Project Manager. He retired completely in the year 2000.
Besides being an ardent golfer and curler, Doug and Kay purchased a small cabin in 1970 at
Jeanette Lake in the Meadow Lake Provincial Park. This cabin was eventually torn down and
a home built which is still owned by Kelly and Murray.
In 2018, due to mobility and age, Doug moved to a seniors home in North Battleford.
