Obituary of Dorothy Elma Beattie
March 18, 1924 – February 27, 2020. Dorothy passed away at the NBRHC at the age of 95 years with her daughters by her side. Dorothy was the daughter of the late Herbert and Elma Lewis. Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband, Frederick Charles Adam Beattie in 2003 and by her siblings Rene Candy, Jeanne Zufelt, Betty Harris and Gordon Lewis. Dorothy was the much beloved mother of Karen Pedersen (Per – deceased), Barbara Burlington (Michael – deceased), Fred Beattie (Heather), Elizabeth Beattie, David Beattie (Cathy) and Timothy Beattie (Dominique). Dorothy took incredible pride and delight in her sixteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and her one great, great grandchild. Dorothy was a beautiful, kind, loving and gracious lady who was much loved by her family and all who knew her. Dorothy loved being outdoors. She enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing. She was an avid gardener and loved taking long walks with her beloved dog, Nikko. Dorothy also took pleasure in playing Bridge with many different groups over the years. Most of all, she was a devoted homemaker for her large family. Dorothy was a proud member of Fidelis Chapter No. 99, of the Order of the Eastern Star for which she once served as Worthy Matron. For the past eight years, Dorothy much appreciated the care and kind support from the staff at Empire Living Centre and the warm friendship of her fellow residents. Through the Martyn Funeral Home, cremation has taken place and a service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will take place in the spring.
