January 12, 1923 – October 28, 2020
It is with saddened hearts that the family announce the passing of Dorothy May Olson at the age of 97 on October 28, 2020 at Creekside Landing Home where she joyfully went to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Dorothy was born to David and Mary Laskey on January 12, 1923 in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan. She was the second eldest of 11 children, raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. Dorothy received schooling to grade 8 when she was needed at home to help care for her mother and youngest siblings. She later attended college obtaining secretarial skills and moved to Winnipeg where she worked for a large accounting firm on Portage and Main. Dorothy moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in the fall of 1948 to attend Prairie Apostolic Bible Institute and there she met Mervyn Olson who attended the church where the Bible school was located. They courted for a year and a half and married on April 15, 1950.
While in Saskatoon, Mervyn and Dorothy had three children and then moved to Kelowna, BC in 1964. Three years later they moved to Armstrong where Dorothy began her adventures living on a farm, later moving into the town of Armstrong where they retired. They moved to Vernon in 2005. She was actively involved in the local church orchestra, teaching Sunday school and occasionally worked as the church secretary.
Dorothy was predeceased by her mother and father, siblings William, Olive, Thelma, Kenny, Liane and Ruth. She is survived by her loving husband Mervyn; children Gilbert (Beverly), Lorne (Malanda – predeceased Jan 2020), Caren (Eldon Brown); grandchildren Scott (Celynne), Ryan (Lesley), Andrea, Selena, Tamara (Dave), Reuben (Meagan), Charity and Jeremiah (Nicole); great grandchildren Isaiah, Elijah, Kayla, Isla, Lennon and Jace; sister Grace and brother Jack, Dan and Dave.
Our heartfelt thanks goes to her doctor and those who cared for her at Creekside Landing.
