It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our wonderful mother, Dorothy, age 92, at Rose Wood Village in Trail. She was born in Oxbow, Saskatchewan and was raised on a farm.
Graduating from Brandon General Hospital in Manitoba as a Registered Nurse, she eventually moved to Yellowknife, NWT. Dad had gone from Trail to work at Con Mine and they met at the bowling alley. They married in 1953 and transferred back to Trail in 1955. Mom worked a few years at CS Williams Clinic, but mainly in the nursery and emergency department of the Trail hospital. We know her patients were well cared for.
In retirement she volunteered with the Red Cross and the Cancer Society. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, gambling bus trips, bingo and the senior’s dances. We are in awe of her strength and independence. She was also very kind and generous to all.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Andrew and Sarah Hood, her brother Dale and loving husband Bruno (1998). She will be greatly missed by her daughter Joanne (Royston) Smyth and son Brian (Sandy). Also missing her are the loves of her life, grandchildren; Aaron, Jordan (Deanna), Robyn (Jacob) and Lauren (Tylor), great-grandchildren Charlie, Ryan and one to come in April. Dorothy is survived by sisters; Joyce (Norman) Bigney of Glen Ewen, Saskatchewan and Carol Ova of Norway as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral will not be held by request. Jamie Tarron of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
As an expression of sympathy, donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence.
Hope you and dad are dancing together again.
Always remembered, forever loved.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Dorothy Jean Cantarutti September 14th 2020..
